Essential Oils...
They're not just for the spa anymore!

The fragrant smells and healing therapies of essential oils are some of the many perks of visiting the spa.  But, did you know that essential oils can be used at home to enrich your life between spa visits?

Essential oils have been used for many years for cosmetic purposes, as well as for their spiritually and emotionally uplifting properties. In general, when used properly, essential oils are quite safe and highly beneficial. Read on to discover daily uses of essential oils.

Essential oils:

Stimulate a positive emotional state.
Essential oils can be your key to a more fulfilling and balanced emotional life. To encourage peace and balance, try these selections for diffusion, soothing baths, massage, inhalation, or topical application:

- Lavender
- Orange
- Peppermint
- Jasmine

*Use them alone or mix them together to create scents you love.

Enhance relaxation.

- Improve sleep - Sprinkle a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow to help you fall asleep.
- Relieve tension - Apply a drop of lavender oil on your hands and rub together. Inhale the aroma and let the smell overwhelm your senses. Your tension will melt away.
- Improve depression -Add rose oil to baths, inhalations, and diffusers to improve mood.

Complement your beauty routine.

- Freshen breath - Take a small drop of peppermint oil to freshen breath.
- Strengthen nails - Mix frankincense, myrrh, and lemon into 2 tablespoons of Vitamin E oil and rub on cuticles to soften and strengthen.
- Teeth whitener -Mix lemon oil, coconut oil, and fresh strawberries. Rub on teeth.  Rinse after 2 minutes. Voila!  Instant whiter teeth!
- Relieve nausea - Take a small whiff of peppermint oil to relieve nausea. You can also dab a small drop under your nose for continued effects.

Provide useful at-home routines!

- Place a few drops of essential oil of choice on a cotton ball hidden in discreet places such as the bathroom, cupboards, and drawers for a refreshing scent throughout your home.
- Add a few drops of essential oil to the filter of your vacuum to make every room in your home smell inviting.
- Put a few drops of flea-repelling oils such as tea tree or cedar onto your dog's collar. Fido will smell and feel much better!

Don't Let Acne Get in the Way Anymore!

Use effective acne treatments to reveal a clear complexion.

As we strive to meet our personal goals for 2015, the mirror looms ever larger as a reminder that it's time to finally take control over those bothersome breakouts.  This is the year that you're not going to let acne get in the way anymore!  We know exactly how you feel and we're here to help.  Here are some great ways to put your best face forward.

Acne Facials
When it comes to acne, don't under estimate the tenacity of those problem pores.  You scrub, squeeze, and beg but they just don't budge.  That's where facials come in. Estheticians carefully evaluate acne-prone skin and use a variety of effective treatments to help clean out stubborn pores. Facials go right to the root of acne to physically open clogged pores and remove the dead skin cells that are stuck inside.  Steam, medicated cleansers, exfoliating treatments, and calming masks work together to gain rapid control over acne-prone skin.

Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are another way to rapidly clear acne-prone pores and leave the skin looking fresh and clean and feeling soft and smooth.  Using gentle peels to penetrate problem pores and chemically loosen dead, sticky skin cells, peels can effectively control acne breakouts leaving a clear complexion behind.

Microdermabrasion
An alternative to chemical peels, microdermabrasion is another form of skin exfoliation that can target clogged pores in acne and acne-prone skin to clear acne breakouts.  By gently removing superficial skin cells overlying blotchy patches, skin discoloration caused by previous breakouts can also be improved.

Acne Skin Care
How many half-used bottles of acne washes and highly advertised creams are sitting in your medicine cabinet or on your bathroom shelf because they just don't live up to their promise?  This year, make it a point to use the most effective home care treatments that can really make a difference.  A visit with a Spa Essence Retreat skin care professional can help to structure an effective regimen that really works!

Ask A Therapist

Q. I have a very demanding, high-stress job and have trouble unwinding once I go home.  What can you suggest to help me relax and de-stress once I leave work each day?

A. Take a bath with Epsom salts and add a few drops of your favorite aromatherapy scent. Epsom salts with added aromatherapy aid in relaxing the nervous system, soothe back pain, and ease muscle strain. Also, the magnesium in the Epsom salts helps produce serotonin, a chemical within the brain that creates calm and relaxation.
